Two more tables for this weekend's What a Cowboy game

The old mission

The mountains

So, now I have four tables set up for Saturday, and plans for how to rework them for Sunday. Now, some of the tables may remain untouched for Sunday, but at least one will be redone as a town setting. The others may stay intact if the players indicate a desire to wrest control of a territory from the opposing gang. I set up four tables just incase timing allows for four games and also in case there are more players than anticipated showing up. (it would allow for two games to be played at once.

I rather like the mission board, not certain how it will work for What a Cowboy, but it could be a great layout for Pulp Alley. As for the mountain board it is ice to get my mountain range out of storage.

Two of the tables for the next game day

A town south of the border and a mining camp in the mountains,, two of the settings for this weekends games. Now these pics were taken before last weeks games and the setup has changed somewhat but the essentials are still there.

The mining camp has had some extra hills added and the buildings replaced with tent buildings. For the town, I have added some adobe walls and shifted the odd building.

What a Cowboy! campaign

So, after our recent successful game of What a Cowboy I am inspired to propose a campaign. To that end I have a few construction projects to add some extra scenery to the existing pool, a mine, a tent city and some additional scatter terrain among other items. Also I will need to work on some mounted figures, just in case.

So I will send out an invite soon to see who is interested and try to get a game day around the end of June.

Yet another Midgard game (planned for May 2nd)

So, this weeks scenario comes from the Midgard Chronicles book, scenario 7, Too eager! Last couple of games saw the defenders with no incentive to move. this time around, the defenders will be split with one contingent well separated from the other contingents, but holding on to the main objective. It will behoove the defenders to advance in support of this isolated group to both save them from destruction and to hold the objective.

Once again it will be Orc vs Dwarf  and this time around we will randomly determine who is the attacker and who is the defender. We may well play this game twice on Saturday with two different groups, all depends on who all can attend and when (morning or afternoon)

Upcoming game weekend Midgard Heroic Battles

Battle in the badlands! This weekend hope to run a couple of games of Midgard Heroic Battles with some of the guys. I plan to run the same battle for two different groups of players on Saturday and Sunday.

Dwarf defenders

The battle will see the Dwarves defending against a horde of Orcs. Both army lists are from the rulebook, the scenario is my own. (really just the first scenario with more scenery) The picture shows the troops set up for some solo gaming that I am playing this week in preparation for the weekend's event.

April 11th proposed game day

One of the proposed games

So, I have two games set up for Saturday, What a Cowboy! and Devilry Afoot and I will set up a Pulp Alley game too.

Thursday, 2 April 2026

Other possible games

Maybe Adeptus Titanicus giant robot gladiatorial matches as well or instead of Midgard. I just painted up 4 traitor titans, it might be nice to get them on the table.

Naturally, Pulp Alley is also high up on the list.

I have some witches and some Puritans, oh and a witch hunter general!

HERE is a link to a Youtube intro Devilry Afoot game. Note, not a video by me but an excellent video by Skirmish Wargames.

This is already set up and ready to go.

Midgard Heroic Battles game

I have watched a few videos of this game in action, I think it is time to give it a try.

Here is a LINK to an introductory video by Two Fat Lardies. They have more posted on Youtube.

It does do a lot of what Fantastic Battles does not. Some of my more important (to me) homegrown rules amendments for Fantastic Battles are apparently standard rules in Midgard. The good news is that there are no issues with basing! There are similarities, but also differences.

  • Units can be forced back/retreat
  • Units that are reduced to 1/2 strength have reduced combat
  • Leaders are important but do not dominate just like FB
  • Leaders can still issue challenges
  • Incorporates a command roll of 3+ but leaders can help out should you fail
  • Every unit can move independent of the command roll, command roll allows second move
  • Similar trait system for creating units
  • Looks easy to use, rules light
Overall it looks like a fun game! There is a new supplement being released now with campaign rules and 15 new scenarios.

Battlefleet Gothic Campaign?

So, after one play of the game I have started thinking about a quick campaign of Battlefleet Gothic. This would be the planned campaign map of the Gethsemane sub-sector. This is right out of the rule book but quickly redrawn by me.

The campaign would focus on a classic Imperial vs Chaos struggle with any other groups acting as lesser powers and or pirates. We would use the 'new' rules that can be found on the Battlefleet Gothic FB page. They are really just a clarification and somewhat updated version of the classic rules.

The table has been set, the forces planned out, all is ready for our next game day!

Getting ready for the next Pulp Alley Campaign - VICE ALLEY

Hi everyone

So, as promised there will be a new Pulp Alley campaign, a Chicago cops and robbers style game starting in August. I have been working on the table throughout July. Currently there are around 42 buildings on the table, the plan is to mark out 3' x 3' actions as needed to play any given scenario. The pictures included are just a rough draft as it has already been changed since these pictures were taken. I plan to add a dock yard on another table.

Players do need to decide at the start of the campaign which faction they are working for the syndicate or law and order. It will impact what scenarios you can select and may even impact who is an enemy to each other.

  1. Like the previous campaign everyone will get a free random associate at the start of the campaign.
  2. If you select an associate during your league build you may select that associate as per the rules on page 27-28.
  3. Weapon kits may be selected as per page 115 of the rule book. One free choice per character
  4. During the game you will be restricted to level 1 backups. As your Influence/Reputation grows you will be able to select higher level backups. If anyone selects the perk call to arms then backups selected with those points are not restricted.
  5. There may be special events that will impact on L & O/Syndicate leagues depending on the success of the respective sides.
  6. Throughout the campaign you will have a chance to control specific locations (pool hall, racetrack etc) these locations will grant you a chance to gain some benefit.
  7. There are some scenarios that can only be selected by a specific faction and only if that faction has a high enough Influence/Reputation score.
  8. There are a lot of scenarios that are two player scenarios that can almost operate like a challenge. One player can select a scenario and challenge an opponent.
  9. In some cases, in any given scenario, leagues of the same faction may not be enemies while in other scenarios they are. Even L&O leagues can mix it up, jurisdictional issues and all that.
  10. There may be scenarios, or as a result of Reputation/Influence level that will see you gain vehicles for a scenario, or even longer.
  11. I am thinking this campaign will not run as long as the last one, but the actual number of games is not predetermined.
As always I have extra figures and extra leagues that can be selected should anyone run low on time to build a league and figs of their own.
So far one player has already submitted their league to me. Once completed please forward your league to me. If you have pictures of figures please include them.
If you have a chance could you maybe indicate if there are times that work better than others to game, and/or specific dates that are no good.

If you have any questions or suggestions about what you want to see in the campaign please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you

Pulp Alley, Vice Alley II preview of things to come

So, I am getting ready for the August start of our next campaign, Vice Alley II. I pulled out 37 buildings  and spread them out over the gaming table. They certainly do fill up a 9' x 5' game table! Right now it is just a rough setup more for the purpose of seeing what I have and what needs to be worked on.(the answer is a lot)

Pulp Alley China Station campaign, up coming event

The next scenario for our China Station campaign has been set up. Still need to set up 1 or 2 more scenarios for the next game day, possibly including the final scenario...

Saturday June 24th another Pulp Alley game on the schedule!

So, 1pm arrival time. It looks like we might have anywhere from 3 to 5 players attending. It will be another refresher/intro game session prior to the start of the campaign. If time allows we can do a group session of league building after the game. I have 8 pre-generated leagues that can be used and the figures to go with them, but feel free to bring your own figures and leagues if you have them. For those that have played before, this is a good chance to test out league builds that you have not tried before.

So see everyone this Saturday!

Gameday Sunday June 11th

 So we hopefully meet again.

So far three of us will get together on Sunday for some pulp action! Thankfully I still have a Pulp Alley table set up and a What a Cowboy table set up.

Anyone else interested?

Pulp Alley campaign - China Station

Looks like this may well be the next campaign. It is twelve chapters long, has lots of interesting scenarios (with interesting variations on the normal scenario rules) and should provide some challenges for players (and GM) and has already got me thinking about ways to modify or expand upon the setting.

Also on the plus side it will inspire me to finish off my Japanese naval forces, my Chinese river pirates, my gangsters, British naval, American naval...well maybe at least work on some of these (plus whatever else comes to hand)

Oh yes, I may have to build a junk!

Campaign time?

So given that we have not managed to get together to play a one off game why don't we try to get a campaign going!?!

Yeah, I know,  it sounds kind of crazy.😵

Any thoughts on this? I propose that we start playing in the new year, but that we start planning now!

I am open to suggestions on what to play. Some possible choices:

  • Pulp Alley create a new campaign
  • Pulp Alley replay one we have played before
  • Pulp Alley a mash up of previous campaigns to create a new one
  • Pulp Alley, as above, but add in scenarios from the scenario book
  • Fantastic Battles using their system
  • Fantastic Battles using modified Mighty Empires or some other system
  • Pyrrhic war (Little Wars TV)  style campaign but with fantasy armies
  • Battle fleet Gothic
  • Warhammer using modified Mighty Empires
  • Warhammer campaign using a mini campaign like Circle of blood
  • Back of Beyond (I would need to paint stuff but the motivation would be good)
  • Oathmark campaign either with their rules or Warhammer/Fantastic Battles
  • Congo
  • Chaos in Carpathia
  • Super hero
  • Silver Bayonets (working on those figures)
  • Or something else that you think would work for the group.

Best that it be simple rules that more than one of us has played (or that are so simple it would not be a challenge to introduce them) Based on attendance history it would be better if the campaign can be played even when some players cannot attend. I would prefer that we do not have the campaign grind to a halt due to the absence of one or two players. Pulp Alley worked well in that who ever showed up played and were not hampered by any absence players.

I do not think we will see much game playing in December, but would be happy to be proven wrong.

Next game day?

So, what and when is it to be?

Suggestions?

Shall we return to Fantastic Battles, maybe WW2 such as Rapid Fire/Battle group/O Group?

What about Pulp Alley again, or maybe some other miniature game of even a board game?

Also, are Sundays still the best day or should we include Saturdays into the mix?

Comments welcome and needed.

Thank you

Next game day and update regarding Pulp Alley game from our last session

Looks like next game day will be Sunday September 17th 18th.

So far I believe What a Tanker! is still on the list, as is Mare Nostrum (time permitting) I have been working on another game this week but I do not think I will have it ready in time.

Also I have posted an AAR for our Pulp Alley game from August 21st. Click HERE to see the report.

Next game date Sunday August 21th

Planet of the Apes Pulp Alley game. Beneath a blazing Betelgeuse like sun, ape leagues and human leagues battle to acquire a critical item that will aid them in the conquest of the planet! Who will escape with the mysterious item?

Followed by, maybe, a game of What a Tanker! This would be a chance to test out artillery and anti-tank weapons.

If not What a Tanker, maybe a boardgame like...

See Y'all on Sunday!!
