So, a brief diversion before the start of the new Pulp Alley game, a few of us got together to play AQMF. It has been quite some time since this game has been on the table so a crash course on the rules was in order. I know I made some mistakes but for the most part I think it ran pretty well. The armies were approximately 1860 points each with the Martians the attackers while the humans occupied some ruins on the edge of town. The scenario was 'The Outskirts' from the rule book. The Americans deployed many of their troops as hidden (being represented by blips markers) and also deployed one ambush party.
The Martian s came on strong using a lot of command points to push the advance at the double march. The hidden American forces did provide some surprises as in one case a clamper tank appeared and after two attempts was able to immobilize a scout walker (the 2nd clamper tank tank was discovered and destroyed before it could even make an attempt to clamp) The lone ambush troops (a company of machine guns) wound up being hidden right along the path that the Martian commander took. While their fire proved ineffective against the Dominator tripod, they ultimately redirected their fire on the Matian drones and dispatched a few of them.

One of the stars for the Americans had to be the rough rider squads that were able to entangle two of the Martians making them easier targets for the American gunners. Amazingly the Flame tank lasted more than one turn and did do damage before it was destroyed. The artillery did not do much and was quickly dispatched by the Martians but was selected by the Americans to return as reinforcements (thanks to Industrial might)

The scorpion drones in the center of the battlefield met a quick death(?) when the last two units of machine guns were revealed right in front of them and destroyed them in short order.
In the end the Americans were able to break the Martian army (destroying more than 50% of the Martian forces) The variable nature of initiative certainly helped the Americans as they were able to enjoy taking the initiative immediately after having just been the second to act in the previous turn. It meant they were able to get two attacks back to back without having to suffer attacks by the Martians.
The players seemed to enjoy it, hopefully we will get another game in soon.
